It’s Christmas Week, so I’m guessing your scrambling a bit. But fear not- it will all come together, and it will be wonderful. Right? Here’s a quick word of encouragement for you as Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Jesus, draws near…
I’m guessing a great deal of what’s yet before you involves things done for others. Parties to prepare for, presents to get together and wrap, travels to extended family- you likely have your list. Christmas ends up being a lot of you doing stuff for other people.
In John chapter 13, Jesus teaches, both with words and actions, what it means to serve. Wrapping a towel around his waist, he washes the disciples feet. And as He is finishing, he shares this incredibly powerful line: “Now that I, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you… Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them” (John 13:14,17).
What a beautiful promise from Jesus- serving others leads to certain blessings. Sometimes the grind of doing so much can wear on us, but be encouraged- in doing so, you are following Jesus’ example, your neighbor/family/friends benefit from what you do, and somehow, someway, “you WILL be blessed if you do them” (John 13:17).
A blessed Christmas Week to you all!
