Session Descriptions
Session 1: First Course
The first bite of food should set the stage for what to expect in the whole meal. This modest introduction is meant to be meditated on, revisited in your mind, and connected to everything else. A proper chef seeks to highlight what is seasonal while creating a dish that transcends this brief moment in time. Psalm 1 tells us that the Word is also meant to be chewed on, so we will learn what it means to read Scripture as meditative literature and the themes that the opening pages prepare us for.
Session 2: Main Course
This is the dish you think of when preparing for a meal; in fact, the whole meal was built around it. When you step back and consider all of the courses, you realize that elements of the main course found their way into each and every other course. It would not be inappropriate to say that in the main course, you found it most substantial and definitely needed longer to chew on. Scripture reveals the heart of Yahweh and His character, which shapes the way we read every page.
Session 3: Dessert
Food scientists have studied it and concluded that we should be eating dessert. Certainly, it brings us genuine joy and cleanses our palate, but it also helps us digest the food and tricks us into wanting more and more. A meal typically concludes on a sofa or the porch. We dine and sip more slowly, we chat about the meal and plan for the next feast together. This is wisdom; Scripture is meant to be pondered over, and it doesn’t tell us what to think but how to think.
